TARP Inspector Scrutinizes Federal Housing Program

Neil Barofsky, Congress’ special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), makes no bones about his dissatisfaction and frustration with the Treasury’s management of the $700 billion purse.

Barofsky said the Treasury Department has misled the public and questioned the fairness of its payouts to the nation’s biggest banks in a report issued earlier this month.

In his most recent dissertation, Barofsky threatened to subpoena documents from the Treasury and White House to get to the bottom of exactly how TARP funds are being used.

He also offered up a dissection of the administration’s Making Home Affordable (MHA) program, prefaced with a rebuke that the Treasury has not adopted previous recommendations his office has made for the program.

Barofsky zeroed in on three specific suggestions that he says would “answer some of the criticisms of the program,” which has been allotted $50 billion of TARP funds.

First, the inspector general says, Treasury should keep track of everyone who participates in a mortgage modification transaction and keep the information in a central database.

“Treasury has refused to adopt this significant anti-fraud measure designed to detect insiders who are committing large-scale fraud,” Barofsky complained. “This represents a material deficiency in the MHA anti-fraud regime.”

Secondly, as another measure to prevent fraud, he recommends that servicers be required to compare the income reported by borrowers’ on the mortgage modification application with the income they claimed when they applied for the original mortgage.

And third, Barofsky wants the Treasury to defer paying mortgage servicers the $1,000 bonus incentives for carrying out the federal modification until after homeowners have made a minimum number of payments following the three-month trial period.

All in all, Barofsky says he’s made 41 recommendations to the administration that would improve TARP and all its sub-programs, of which only 18 have been executed and seven have been partially implemented.

Well, here we are almost at the end of the the fourth quarter of 2008. Below is a chart showing the sales figures of residentials homes as well as condominiums for Flagler County Sales. The chart is a snapshot of the Number of Homes Sold for August and September. Also, showing the Median Sale Price of those two months and of 2007 and 2008. The Daytona Beach Area Association of REALTORS – Realist reports the total sales for the were 1,362 as of 11/17/2008.

Do you have GREAT training right under your nose?

I consider myself to be very fortunate to have a very skilled real estate trainer at my finger tips. Midori Miller is Daytona Beach, Florida’s top real estate trainer and she works for my company CENTURY21 Sundance Realty.

We all have the opportunity to learn and some of us take advantage of it and some of us feel we are to busy. Well, when Midori came to our office almost 4 years I was very busy, the top dog of our company for many years in a row and had no time for one on one training. I am an REALTOR who prides herself in continued education and I did not take advantage of this one on one training until recently.

I can honestly say, “Thanks to Midori I am in front of the eight ball with Web 2.0″. Yes, for the last two years Midori has been very politely tell me to blog, blog and do more blogging. Well I haven’t quite mastered that but I can say that I’am putting forth a honest effort.

Month after month she would give me projects to do such as joining social networks such as Active Rain, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.. At first I felt like a fish out of water and even to this day sometimes I feel like she is speaking to me in a foreign language.

For the last two days I have been in a REO certification class with Paradigm Default System. The content of the course was everything I already knew but now I have credibility to my knowledge. The last part of the class was on Web 2.0. Let me tell you, I knew everything they were teaching the class and I owe all that to Midori, because she helped me become knowledgeable in an area that I didn’t think I really understood.

So I guess the message here is take advantage of the training that might be right under your nose and don’t take it for granted. As we all know it doesn’t always last not everything is forever.

Hello to all!

I would like to say I am new to blogging and actually I am. Well, what I mean is that I was introduced to blogging by a mentor of mine Midori Miller almost 2 years ago. I love to read the blogs but have been scared to death to write a blog. Why? Because when I was first approached about blogging all I can remember is, “BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WRITE IT’S PERMANENT”. Therefore, this has become my fear of blogging. I am very slowly getting over that fear as you can see because I have established this WordPress blog account.

So, for all those critics out there I ask that you be gentle when giving your criticism. Don’t get me wrong I welcome it but just try not to be so brutal. As I write this I promise to post more blogs about my family, friends, real estate, Ormond Beach, Florida, the Worlds Most Famous Beach Daytona Beach and CENTURY21 Sundance Realty also my favorite community Daytona Beach LPGA.
